Thai Food Experience in Edmonton

The restaurant "The King & I" is loacted near "Old Strathcona" which is one of the famous area where tourists and locals can enjoy shopping, dinning, farmers market, art and culture event.  We just came across it after we enjoyed some culture play near there.

Thai restaurant : The King & I
This is the entrance.  Cozy ambience welcomed us.
That was a late afternoon and I guessed just after
crowd of people left.
Here is Thai Food what we had!

Kai Kao Tom
Rice soup cooked with chicken and mashroom.
It tasted sour and spicy.  I found stick of lemongrass.
I loved this soup.

Singha
Crispy and light taste! It's a lager beer.
It reminded me of German beer or Japanese
Asahi Super Dry.

Here it talked about the history of this beer.

This was 1st Thai beer brewed in Thai under its royal permission.

In late 1920, Praya Bhirom Bhakdi thought it was time to brew local beer there.  He went to China, Indonesia and Gemany to study brewering.  Later he found out Thai had underwater that could be perfect mix to brew beer. That's quick summary how this beer came up.  Sounds like this beer also had culture mix.

Main : Pad Thai

This reminded me of a bit of Japanese Yakisoba or Chinese Chowmen.  Because of Tamarindo sauce, it tasted sweet.  Crispy peanuts gave this plate extra flavor. Basically rice noodle with shrimp and some vegees and chiken.  I found myself ordering this plate whenever I visit Thai restaurant.  I don't know why.

Main : Matsuman Nuea

Red curry with cumin and peanuts and beef.
Thai curry uses coconuts and that brings somehow fusion between spicy and mild taste.  I actually liked this plate better than Pad Thai here.

I knew that Staffs here came from Thai through conversation.  They know what spices and ingredients are used for their plates.  That's the way it should be in a authentic restaurant, I think.  When first I looked at lemongrass stick, "Oh that's root part of spring onion".  But if I bit it, "Oh No".  Then I asked one of the staffs what it was.  He explained one by one.  One more spice like root.. it starts with G... I forgot.  In the end, I left it with a happy tammy.
